Volunteer Opportunities

There are many exciting ways for Boston-area companies to connect with Boston high school students around careers, including, but not limited to, hosting summer interns. For example, many employer partners volunteer to participate in school-year career exploration activities that help students identify their career interests and learn about local industries from professionals in the field.

The Boston PIC welcomes volunteers at all levels of commitment. We will work with you to come up with a plan that works best with your company’s volunteers. If you or your company is interested in volunteering, fill out this interest form or contact Josh Bruno, Employer Engagement Director.

Make a One-Time Commitment

Examples of one-time volunteer opportunities:

  • Conduct a workplace tour with a hands-on activity
  • Host a skill-building workshop
  • Evaluate students’ capstone projects
  • Serve as an industry expert in a classroom lesson
  • Assist with mock interviews or resume prep
Make a Recurring Commitment

Examples of recurring volunteer opportunities:

  • Supervise a school year or summer intern
  • Host a topic-based, skill-building “bootcamp” during school vacation week in February or April
  • Host a weekly skill-building workshop
  • Serve on a curriculum advisory committee to offer support for educators developing course content
Volunteers are needed for the PIC’s signature programming during the summer and school year.
Bootcamps

PIC’s vacation-week bootcamps allow students to earn a stipend while exploring a career and developing technical skills that prepare them to compete for and succeed in various jobs and internships.  Bootcamps have helped students develop skills in coding, data science, 3D printing, robotics, architecture & design, financial literacy and Microsoft Excel.

Meet The Pros Virtual Career Panels

During the summer, the PIC’s Employer Engagement team organizes Meet the Pros, a series of virtual career panels for hundreds of PIC summer interns working at private sector employers and community-based organizations. Each panel discussion focuses on a different profession by highlighting the career journeys of professionals at various experience levels, from early-career to C-Suite.

STEM Week

Massachusetts STEM Week is an annual statewide effort to boost the interest, awareness, and ability of all students to see themselves in STEM careers. Taking place during the third week of October, STEM Week connects students to STEM-related workshops, design challenges, field trips to area employers, career panels, and more. The PIC works with Boston-based employers interested in providing career exploration activities for students during STEM week.
