As Boston’s MassHire Workforce Board, the PIC plays a lead role in the local implementation of initiatives that provide workforce development activities, in partnership with employers, training providers, educational institutions, and community organizations. The PIC and City of Boston have collaborated on a variety of successful grant applications which have rewarded our commitment to innovation and flexibility in the face of rapidly changing economic conditions.

Current Workforce Initiatives
Good Jobs Challenge
The City of Boston Development has been awarded a $23 million federal grant as part of the $500 million Good Jobs Challenge funded by the American Rescue Plan Act. In partnership with over 100 local employers, the initiative is creating demand-driven pathways into healthcare, quality childcare, and clean energy jobs. The PIC healthcare sector partnership builds off of a decade of success as an industry sector convening focused on healthcare careers, including advancement opportunities for entry-level employees.
Career Technical Initiative
The Career Technical Initiative (CTI) provides opportunities for adults to train for skilled occupations at vocational-technical high schools. Boston’s CTI school is Madison Park Vocational Technical High School, focusing on carpentry, automotive maintenance, HVAC, and welding.
TechBoost
TechBoost is a national program, managed regionally by Clark University, that funds comprehensive apprenticeship and pre-apprenticeship skills training for career opportunities within the information technology industry. The PIC provides its expertise in employer engagement, local participant recruitment, and complementary resources to maximize strong training and employment outcomes to support unemployed and underemployed jobseekers.
Healthcare HUB
With state funding through the Commonwealth Corporation, MassHire Boston Workforce Board is partnering with local hospitals and training providers to support adults who want to enter acute care occupations for which there is persistent demand.
Behavioral Health Expansion Initiative
The MassHire Boston Workforce Board partners with the MassHire Metro South/West Workforce Board on the Greater Boston Behavioral Health Partnership Expansion Initiative to support clinical supervision and mentorship costs for workers pursuing clinical licenses. The initiative is funded through the Commonwealth Corporation.
Funding for Training & Upskilling
As Boston’s workforce board, the PIC supports local employers by introducing them to a variety of competitive grant programs so that they can stay competitive and continue to grow.
